PROJECT OVERVIEW: Welcome to this exciting wood flooring installation project in the heart of Bramhall, an affluent suburb of Stockport. Our valued client embarked on an extensive property remodeling, including a large extension, and to add the finishing touch, they envisioned a stunning real wood floor. This substantial project spanned over 150m2 and required meticulous floor preparation. In search of a local flooring company specialising in wood flooring in Bramhall, they found us.

FLOOR SPECIFICATION: The brief was concise: a beautiful and high-quality wooden floor with light natural oak, a slightly rustic finish, minimal variation, and knots, all expertly supplied and fitted by us. We shortlisted four favorites from two renowned UK wood flooring manufacturers, and the unanimous choice was Kinver Edge by Ted Todd Floors

“Kinver Edge boasts a classic sandy color, combining traditionally sawn, long-lasting, and aesthetically pleasing wood. For this project, we used 20mm thick select-grade oak, which retains natural characteristics with some knots but minimal color variation. Available in engineered 180mm and extra wide 220mm planks, Kinver Edge also features long lengths up to 2.2m. Crafted from 100% FSC-certified European oak, each plank is brushed to accentuate the grain pattern and finished with a hardened oil for a natural look and subtle sheen. The outer layer is hardened for added wear and splash resistance, ensuring easy maintenance. Although suitable for use with underfloor heating.

FLOOR PREPARATION: The property demanded extensive subfloor preparation to establish a solid working level. Throughout the ground floor, including the hallway, lounge, day room, WC, and an old section of the kitchen, we used Hanson SP101 18mm ply, overlaying the existing floorboards. For the newly erected extension, we built up the subfloor to match the level of the existing property. Additionally, a damp-proof membrane was applied to the extension due to moisture levels, followed by an epoxy liquid damp-proof membrane (DPM) before leveling. To achieve a subfloor compliant with British Standards (Surface Regularity SR1 level), we used Tilemaster level flex fiber-reinforced levelling compound (suitable up to 50mm). Finally, a final coat of latex smoothing compound was applied throughout the ground floor.

FLOOR INSTALLATION: Our expert Wood Flooring Fitters began the installation journey by establishing a centerline from the hallway. With precision and craftsmanship, they expertly weaved through the property, covering the hallway, lounge, day room, cloakrooms, and the open-plan kitchen and dining space.
