The Vision: Timeless Parquet for a Period Home

Mrs. Li’s property on Bellfield Road, Didsbury (M20), is a classic period home that demanded a floor with history and soul. She wanted to move away from standard planks and return to the elegance of traditional parquet flooring.

The solution was Woodpecker Goodrich Natural Oak. These engineered parquet blocks offer the authentic look of solid oak with the modern stability required for a long-lasting installation. The rich honey tones and rustic details perfectly complement the lounge’s original features.

Technical Subfloor Preparation for Parquet

Installing parquet blocks requires a higher level of precision than standard flooring. Because the blocks are smaller and arranged in a geometric pattern, the subfloor must be perfectly flat.

1. 1. Stabilisation (Ply-Boarding): We overlaid the existing floorboards with 6mm flooring-grade plywood. This creates a neutral surface and bridges any gaps in the old timber.

   2. Ardex Levelling: We applied a 5mm coat of Ardex Smoothing Compound over the plywood. This achieved a “glass-flat” surface, which is critical for ensuring the parquet pattern aligns perfectly without lipping or gaps.

Precision Installation: The Fully Bonded Method

Our expert parquet installers executed this 32m² project over a 10-day schedule.

Unlike floating floors, parquet flooring must be fixed rigidly to the subfloor. We utilised the fully bonded method, gluing each individual block directly to the prepared surface.
