FAQ – Karndean Heritage
Do I need a border with Karndean Heritage?
Yes, we highly recommend it. In true Victorian style, the main pattern (the field) is framed by a border. This separates the floor from the walls and gives it that high-end, finished look. We can design simple block borders or intricate “tramline” borders to suit your space.
Is it cheaper than real Victorian tiles?
Significantly. Restoring original tiles or buying new Encaustic tiles is very labor-intensive and expensive. Karndean Heritage gives you the exact same aesthetic for a much lower price, with the added benefit of being warmer and easier to clean.
Can this be installed over my existing floorboards?
Yes, but the preparation is key. We will usually install a layer of marine-grade plywood (SP101) over your floorboards to stabilise them, followed by a flexible smoothing compound to ensure the surface is perfectly flat for the tiles.
